Netspend Employees Could Buy Your Groceries on December 7th in Largest Community Connect Event to Date

Using customer stories as their guide, Netspend teams to gift $30K to strangers in Austin, Atlanta, San Mateo, Santa Rosa and the Texas Coast

AUSTIN, TX, December 6, 2017 — Netspend will host the seventh iteration of its “pay it forward” community event, Community Connect, benefiting the company’s hometowns of Austin, Atlanta and San Mateo, as well as areas affected by recent hurricanes and wildfires. On December 7, 2017, armed with Netspend prepaid cards and the day-to-day life stories of cardholders, over 70 teams of employees and partners will hit the streets in these communities to surprise and delight lucky individuals they encounter, buying groceries, paying bills, filling gas tanks, sending money to relatives, and covering other daily costs that Americans face.

Teams will also purchase gift cards for groceries and home improvement items, and make donations to recovery organizations in order to provide Texas Gulf Coast and Santa Rosa families impacted by Hurricane Harvey and the California wildfires with much-needed assistance.

“Community Connect is our holiday party. We are passionate about giving back to the communities we call home and this event is a special way to connect with our fellow citizens in a way that honors our customers. This year is our biggest yet in total giving and regional focus, and we’re happy to be able to extend Community Connect to the people hit by recent hurricanes and wildfires,” said Netspend President Chuck Harris.

Due to the generosity and support from partner sponsors, BofI Federal Bank, Enacomm, Mastercard, MetaBank, Republic Bank & Trust Co. and many more, this year’s event will have the most participants and will be the largest give away in Community Connect history. It also paves the way for the Netspend Foundation scholarship program to make a large impact. All money raised through this year’s Community Connect sponsorships will go toward scholarships in 2018, and so far, the foundation has raised more than $300,000.

Community Connect is inspired by the stories and day-to-day lives of Netspend Scholarship recipients, and this year eight of the recipients are participating. Netspend Scholarships go to cardholders who are looking to increase their family income through training, certifications or higher education. The Netspend Foundation is entering its third year of awarding scholarships to deserving recipients. To learn more about the Netspend Foundation, please visit http://www.netspendfoundation.com/.

“We have a huge opportunity to help people change the trajectory of their lives and their communities,” said Harris.  “We’re honored to play a role in helping our customers achieve more for themselves.”
